Playtime

Playtime is a song by BEARR and Steve Cherry. The videoclip reflects on the experience of moving through nightlife as a woman, where the desire to dance freely is often met with observation, judgement, or objectification.

Mirrors appear throughout the narrative as a visual metaphor for the gaze of others. Reflecting behaviour, expectations and imposed identities. As the story unfolds, these reflections begin to fracture. By throwing and breaking the mirrors aside, the protagonist reclaims the space around her, transforming the atmosphere from tension into collective movement.

Colour plays an essential role in the visual language of the videoclip, with shifting palettes used to express the changing emotional states within the scene.

Concept and direction by Manon Beernink.

AMANTES

The film explores the lingering presence of a love that continues to live within memory. The house becomes a metaphor for the inner world of the main character, Eleonor, who remains deeply connected to her former partner, Finn. Her emotions echo through the architecture: when sadness arrives, rain begins to fall within the walls; when anger surfaces, the structure itself seems to fracture and collapse.

In the stillness of night she speaks to him once more. A final moment to release the past and allow grief to settle into silence.

The film was created in collaboration with art director Aurora Albin, with whom Manon Beernink co-wrote the script. Throughout the work, subtle visual details and personal objects appear as quiet traces of past relationships. These elements function as hidden gestures within the narrative, transforming the film into more than a fictional story. It becomes a visual letter to former loves and the people who once shaped the heart.

This film marks Manon Beernink’s first work as a director after graduating from art school and was selected for the Netherlands Film Festival in 2022.
